Proton beam radiation therapy is an innovative method to treat cancer, where patients are exposed to protons instead of X-rays. Protons are basic units of chemical elements like oxygen and hydrogen. Protons have the ability to treat cancer when passed with high energy. Proton beam radiation therapy has several advantages over other conventional therapies like low risk, painless exposure and directing high doses. However, it is expensive and at present limited to treat only few cancers.
Scholarly peer review is the process of subjecting an author's scholarly work, research, or ideas to the scrutiny of others who are experts in the same field, before a paper describing this work is published in a journal. The work may be accepted, considered acceptable with revisions, or rejected. Peer review requires a community of experts in a given (narrowly defined) field, who are qualified and able to perform reasonably impartial review.
