Abstract
The Gaussian thin lens equation is±1/u ±1/f =±1/v
It is the intention of this study to introduce clinicians to a graphical interpretation of this equation; and to illustrate its parts with applications from photography, the eye, refraction, and instruments.
Paraxial object and image type and location are summarized for all lenses, mirrors and beam vergences in two normalized hyperbolic plots.
