Why study BSc (Hons) Midwifery at BU?

  • You can opt to study at either of our campuses 鈥 Bournemouth or Portsmouth
  • With a strong emphasis on women-centred care, the course offers an equal balance of theory and practice
  • 50% of the course will be spent in practice placements, in community听and hospital settings, where you鈥檒l learn from your interactions with women, families, midwives and other health professionals
  • You鈥檒l be introduced to new equipment and skills in our simulation facilities, including a birthing suite, where you can familiarise yourself with techniques prior to going into practice
  • Learn from experienced and knowledgeable registered midwives and other healthcare practitioners.
  • Within fifteen months of finishing the course, 95% of our students are in work or further study.

Funding support:听Midwifery听students听may be eligible for a non-repayable government training grant听of听at least 拢5,000 a year.听Find out more听information about the funding.听Please note听that this funding is not available for students on the Foundation Year, however you will be able to access it once you complete the Foundation Year and move onto the degree.

Course accreditations

This course is validated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), meeting their newest curriculum requirements for midwifery education.

This course is also accredited by Unicef UK Baby Friendly Initiative with the Gold Award for achieving the Baby-Friendly sustainability standards. This demonstrates how the midwifery team at 天美传媒 have committed to long term implementation, maintenance and progression of the Baby-Friendly Standards.听Please note that the Foundation Year part of the course does not have these accreditations.听

Applied Human Biology, Applied Science, Biology, Chemistry, Health & Social Care, Human Biology, Physics, Psychology, Sociology.

Entry requirements:

For听September 2025 entry: 128 - 144 tariff points to include a minimum of 2 A-levels or equivalent including 32 points in a required subject.听BTEC Extended Diploma of DDM in a required subject.听Foundation Year: 48-72 UCAS tariff points.听
