Editorial
Quality publications are and must for promoting essence of any academic stream. Several factors, including lack of quality journals have led to downfall of time-tested traditional systems of medicines. Lack of interest of reputed publishing houses and experimental work has proved detrimental for popularity of traditional systems of medicine. As an example, till to date we have limited number of journals in Ayurveda having indexation in scientific databases and impact factor. Further, high subscription rates and non-awareness about quality journals and publications hamper mindset of students perusing career in traditional systems of medicine. Hence there is immediate need for introducing open access journals for revamping the ancient knowledge.
In case of Ayurveda, efforts are being made for scientific validation for principles and practices of medicine. In this context, peer-reviewed and indexed journals can play pivotal role in adding scientific flavor to the time-tested systems of medicine. OMICS Group by launching open access Journal of Homeopathy and Ayurvedic Medicine have taken step forward to enhance scientific accountability of traditional system of medicine.
Broadly speaking, there is acute shortage of authentic databases in traditional system of medicines. In my view, databases like Annotated Bibliography of Indian Medicine from Netherlands and websites from Hungary have played significant role in making Ayurveda sciences as global phenomenon. In India, Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and Siddha (CCRAS), Department of AYUSH has launched AYUSH portal highlighting till to date research carried on single herb, polyherbal and mineral formulations used in Ayurveda. Similarly, Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL) is welcome step for marinating integrity of Ayurvedic formulations.
OMICS Group Special features like Digital Book can be handy for practitioners, researchers, students and policy makers of traditional systems of medicine. OMICS provides exclusive feature of audio listening, which is enhanced feature of the website. Language translation is another handy tool offered by OMICS Group which translates published paper to more than 50 languages. In case of traditional systems of medicine, every country has its own material media and pharmacopeia.
