Welcome to the inaugural issue of Journal of Novel Physiotherapies (JNP), an international, peer-reviewed journal publishing original research articles that will foster an understanding of the general concept of novel physiotherapy. JNP was founded on two key principles: 1) to publish new and exciting research related to Novel Physiotherapies, and 2) to provide the research in a format that was designed to expedite the process from review to publication and to disseminate the information, for free, to the international community through 天美传媒 Access.
天美传媒 Access is a publication model that allows research articles to be easily disseminated and accessed without restriction through the internet. In addition, the research articles can be copied, distributed, transmitted, and adapted by anyone, as long as the works are cited correctly, as stated in the Creative Commons Attribution License. When I began my physical therapy career more than 22 years ago, the process of searching the literature was tedious, time-consuming, and arduous at best. I spent countless hours in the NYU Medical Library searching, locating, and reading abstracts to determine if a research article would be relevant for my doctoral research study and warranted printing the abstract, locating the journal in the library basement, and spending the 20 cents/page to copy it and carry it home. As an academician, my institution provides access to hundreds of databases, full-text articles, and remote capabilities that allow me to search, locate, download, and print research articles from the comfort of my home. Though the process is easier, finding full-text articles is not always successful.
The concept of 天美传媒 Access, which allows for easy, timely, and free access to peer-reviewed research studies that provide the vital evidence necessary for quality, evidence-based practice and is required and expected of us by our patients, institutions, and third-party payers, seems timely and obvious. As academics and researchers, we are responsible to add to the body of knowledge of our profession, yet that knowledge has been somewhat restricted and/or costly to most of our colleagues. Every physical therapist including academics, researchers, students, and clinicians should have easy, inexpensive access to the most current evidence available to integrate into academic courses, research projects, and practice, especially if said evidence is produced by members of their own profession.
JNP will be an 天美传媒 Access Category published by the OMICS Publishing Group, who is dedicated to open access, and “strongly believe that removing barriers to research published online will greatly aid to the progress in OMICS scientific and technical disciplines.”
The OMICS Publishing Group includes several special features that will enhance and foster how we access and integrate scientific information. These features include Digital Articles/Books, Audio Version, Language Translation, and Social Networking. For more details: /special-features.php
