Abstract
Deaths occurring in custody pose significant challenges to the criminal justice system, requiring meticulous investigation to ensure justice, accountability, and transparency. Comprehensive histological and immunochemical forensic studies have emerged as crucial tools in shedding light on the circumstances surrounding these cases. By employing advanced techniques in histology and immunohistochemistry, these studies offer valuable insights into the cause and manner of death, aiding in the pursuit of truth and justice. This article explores the importance of such studies in custodial deaths, highlighting their role in uncovering cellular and tissue alterations, identifying biomarkers and cellular reactions, and uncovering substances and medications. Furthermore, the challenges faced in conducting these studies and potential avenues for improvement are discussed.
