Abstract
Obesity refers to an excess amount of body fat. Indirect effect of obesity is social pressure from the public. Nowadays we still face obese students who choose not to do weight-loss program in Medicine Faculty Brawijaya University. They are as prospective health workers will became a health figure in the community. This research purposes are to find factors that causing them choose not to do a weight loss program and understand the mechanism of these factors. Qualitative studies using a case study approach by in-depth-interview conducted on nine subject research. Variable in this study is description/ explanation of informants answers including factor knowledge, self-motivation, social environment and how these factors work and affect informants to make decisions. The results showed that factors which lead subjects choose not to do weight loss programs are they do not have strong motivation although they have understanding of obesity and this low motivation is strengthened by the social environment that supports obesity condition. Based on changed behavior theory by Kurt Lewin, mechanism which work to these three factors is the amount of restraining factors as lack of motivation to lose weight which strengthened by social environment support to obesity condition are capable for defeating driving force as understanding of obesity, resulting in moving of balance line and cut into area of non-occurrence behavior change. The conclusion of this study is decision not to do weight-loss program in obese students is a form of non-occurrence behavior change, so it makes subjects remain on the current state.
