Natural gas is rapidly substituting crude to suffice the growing energy requirement of today?s world. The rising oil prices,
high input cost in exploration and production of hard oil resources and relative abundance of gas resources have fuelled the
interest towards natural gas. The growing gap between natural gas demand and supply has spurred interest in the development
of unconventional shale gas resources. India is having the immense prospects of unconventional shale gas resources. This paper
presents the prospects of shale gas in Indian Sedimentary Basins and approaches for evaluation.
Analysing both Rock Eval Pyrolysis and petrophysical experimental data from Cambay Shale of Cambay Basin, its shale gas
potential is established. But one of the challenges is to find out the sweet spots. The production viability of shale gas depends on
geological, geochemical, geomechanics, gas generation and migration mechanisms within shale rock reservoir.
