The steroid-based eye drops with great side effects
prompted us to go for the plant-based preparation
for the cause in reference. The triphala-based
phytosignatures extractable in different solvents of
different polar index with minimal side effects were our
natural choice. This study showed that the extracts of
triphala in various solvents like Ethyl Acetate, Acetone,
Methanol and Water were laced with different blend of
phytosignatures, possessing the mitigating potential(s)
for oxidative stress and bacterial pathogenecitythe
main factors responsible of all types of diseases
including eye infection(s). The results of Minimal
Inhibitory Concentration were further used to check
the biocompatibility of the extracted biosignatures with
Rabbit Corneal Epithelial (SIRC) cell lines.
The drug was prepared by dissolving the lyophilised
triphala extracts in PBS of pH 7 made in millipore
water. The proliferation (MTT) assay revealed the
conclusive action of the in-built phytosignatures as the
growth enhancer and promoter of the SIRC in-vitro,
extendable to in-vivo application. The cell morphology
and cell viability was further evaluated by staining the
cell nuclei using DAPI and Hoechst stains respectively.
The dose-dependent use of these ?Eye Drops? may
be recommended, as the side effects with the triphala
appear to be minimal.
The formulation is cost-effective, accessible and
economical, which could yield comparable results. This
is probably the first reporting on the ocular managing
properties of triphala.
