Abstract
Samples of Leptadenia hastata were collected from Kumbotso Local Government area of Kano State, Nigeria. Proximate analysis and determination of Calcium (Ca), Magnesium (Mg), Iron (Fe) and Lead (Pb) in the leaves of Leptadenia hastata was carried out using AOAC and AAS methods. The proximate result revealed, 61.67% moisture, 17.63±0.02% protein, 13.21±0.1% ash, 1.14±0.02% crude protein, 6.63±0.02% carbohydrate and 14.81±0.03% fiber contents. The mineral content of the leaves was found to be 52.596 μgg -1 for calcium, 0.019 μgg -1 magnesium, 10.12 μgg -1 iron and 0.63 μgg -1 lead. The results are within the literature ranges. The high amount of protein, fiber, carbohydrate and moisture in the leaves of the plant indicated that it could be recommended for consumers as a rich source of vegetable diet.
