Abstract
In the nearly 60 years since Kaplan and Kaplan theorized that obesity is the result of anxious overeating, developments in neuropsychology, neuroendocrinology and the psychology of eating disorders have broadened our understanding of the interplay between emotional states and behavior. Of particular interest for the field of obesity studies are the recognition that overeating bears similarities to addictions of any kind and that even when hyperphagia is not necessarily an addiction it is often associated with negative emotional states. Research further suggests that Yoga. Meditation and a 12-Step Program are effective methods of combatting obesity, establishing personal well- being, and sustaining optimal body mass.Biography
